Summer is officially dead. As temperatures drop, the clocks go backwards and coats go on, design does something that it doesn’t do at other points in the year. During the awkward phase of seasonal transition where you’re unsure of what to wear, you make your wardrobe a hybrid of summer and winter clothing. Likewise, design begins to merge the two seasons in efforts to keep the home warm, well lit and charming.
Autumn Trends

There’s nothing charming about draught excluders. But the autumnal throws come out, fairy lights and LEDs are hung up. And if you’re daring enough, outdoor furniture stays put. Last month, I spoke with experts in outdoor furniture, lighting and heating. We also shared our favourite throw blankets and LED rechargeable lighting (some suitable for outdoors) to shop this season.
Homes are becoming more cave-like—Richard Hayley, the Creative Director of By Haleys shared some insight into how the ceiling is becoming a “fifth wall”. People no longer fear having dark or small spaces and it shows—trending paint colours are deep and intense. Likewise, dead space has been transformed into many different things (my husband says that closet bars are the coolest.) We praised the alcove bed for its versatility. It can be used in studios to create an office under the bed, a built-in bunk bed for parents with small children and to make your home feel that bit more whimsical.
While I did argue for sad beige’s place in interior design last week, autumn is the time to make things a bit more colourful. Earthy tones like rust red, sage green and ochre are subtle pops of colour that add biophilic charm to a home, mirroring the outdoors wonderfully. Fashion is picking up on this too—did you see the Murano glass stools at the Bottega Veneta show? Earthy with a focus on craftsmanship is the name of the game.
Rich Girl Interiors

Beyond the obvious, October is also the month of the silver screen. Gilmore Girls reaches its 20th anniversary and cult classic Clueless turns 30. This month, we’ll talk about what makes the Clueless house timeless with a guide on how to get Cher Horowitz’s palatial interiors for your home.
Now is an opportune time to talk about #RichTok. Why are we obsessed with super rich people’s homes in a cost of living crisis? This month, I’ll be deep diving into this and giving advice for achieving #RichTok interiors without daddy’s money.
Whilst I can’t give advice on how to be born again as an heiress, I can advise you on how to achieve the look. We’ll also get into the concealed cooker hood trend that is making everyday kitchens look elevated. As always, I’ll also be answering your design woes and helping you to access good design on a tight budget.
