First of all, Happy New Year! It’s a fresh start for some, but a complete rebirth for others. For us, it’s both.

This means there has been a lot of behind the scenes work and less articles building up to the New Year, but we are hoping to ramp it back up to a daily article/newsletter so please subscribe to have that sent straight to your mailbox each morning at 8am.

If you’ve visited the site or seen any of our socials in the last couple of weeks, you’ll notice that our visuals are drastically different.

We’ve rebranded to focus on our true mission: to democratise good design. We felt that our style, the tone of our articles and the creative direction reflected the affordable nature of our content, but affordability is just one colour on the canvas that is accessibility. We don’t just want to present you with products that are within your budget; we want to be able to explain trends, concepts and ideas within design that are often gatekept through jargon and… plain snobbery. Interiors, architecture and home decor have plenty of both, so we’re sifting through it to help you access this world without the fuss.

Tweed Talks poster. Reads: the Broke in Tweed podcast. www.brokeintweed.co.uk.

We have a Youtube channel! We’ve officially launched the Broke in Tweed channel and have three different series that will run on a monthly basis: Tweed Talks, our podcast where we speak to experts to help you improve your home design through life experiences, Tweed Tours, where we tour various homes that have been able to create a sense of cosy at a low cost to inspire you, and Tweed Treasures, where we visit a charity shop each month to give you inspiration for second hand shopping.

The question that naturally proceeds from hearing this information is, why? Well, upon launching Broke in Tweed, I keep hearing from friends that they’d love to be creative but don’t know how to draw inspiration from their surroundings. They also said that it feels like anything that is nice is either too expensive or wouldn’t work in their small/rented/plain space. I kept hearing: “I’d love to buy second hand but I never seem to find anything good.” I’m hoping that this series will help them and you learn the art of treasure hunting in second-hand shops and discover the joy of finding a once-in-a-lifetime piece.

Of course, there will also be standalone posts from time to time, such as responses to our agony aunt “Dear Chey” letters, trend forecast videos and our usual news and feature shorts. Expect something new every week and subscribe to be the first to know about our new content.
